Obstetric cholestasis has been linked with an increased incidence of

• passage of meconium
• iatrogenic premature delivery
• fetal distress
• delivery by caesarean section and
• postpartum haemorrhage.
  Meconium passage- some studies show that it is more common in preterm obstetric cholestasis, and in severe cholestasis ( defined as bile acids over 40 micromoles/L) as compared to mild( bile acids under 20micromoles/L) - A study found a 19.7% increase in risk of meconium passage for each 10 micromoles/L increase in total bile acid concentration. Meconium stained liquor was reported in about 44% women with severe Obstetric Cholestasis.
